March 2008

Skills for Life

A new national Skills for Life campaign launched on 17th March (and will be repeated in August). It will be branded 'Move On' - as opposed to the previous 'Get On' campaign, spearheaded by gremlins characters and it will target people with the lowest entry level maths. People will be encouraged to call 0800 66 0800, which connects them to learndirect advisers.

The 'Move On' campaign will fully integrate into the overarching Skills Campaign message 'Our future. It's in our hands'. Campaign creatives will be available for your use shortly.

A website to support the campaign went live on 17th March and is hosted by Direct Gov. The site will allow learners to test their maths and English skills. They will also be able to watch the TV adverts (these started 24th March) and a DVD, which case studies learners who have taken courses and the positive benefits is has made to their lives. Copies of the DVD will be available for your use shortly.

The Skills for Life Get On campaign returns with a focus on numeracy in March. TV, press, radio and PR will run from 17 March for three weeks designed to raise awareness and inspire adults to think about overcoming their fears about numeracy. The campaign will be followed up with another burst of activity in August. To view the TV ad please click here

Apprenticeship Campaign Update

The East Midlands LSC will be introducing a new lead management process to offer the best possible service to employers seeking information and advice about apprenticeships. Enquiries generated from national and regional promotional activity will be forwarded onto Apprenticeship Area Leads in each county, who will help the employer understand apprenticeships as a product, explain what training is available and offer them information on which providers can help them meet their training needs.

Click here for the Apprenticeship Area Leads for each county.

Click here to view a flow chart which explains in detail the lead process.

This new system, which manages ‘inbound leads’, will be introduced by mid March and includes an e-lead system which will help Apprenticeship Area Leads and providers monitor and track the outcomes of the leads received from marketing activity. During April we will be commencing ‘outbound’ telemarketing activity aimed at employers with a view to generating leads and increasing apprenticeship opportunities for existing employees or young people looking for career opportunities

If you would like to find out more about the new lead process please contact Jane Peel on 0116 228 1932 or email jane.peel@lsc.gov.uk

Skills Pledge

The Skills Pledge home page has recently been updated and simplified. It now features new boxes which lead very clearly to:

  • What is the Skills Pledge? Collapsible headings can be clicked which reveal the content related to that heading
  • Who has made the Skills Pledge? List of companies which have made the Skills Pledge
  • How do I make the Skills Pledge? The new online process for an employer to make the Skills Pledge
  • I'd like more information. Links to the downloadable PDFs, leaflets etc.

To help providers and partners raise awareness of the Skills Pledge we've put together a toolkit thats available for use at events, conferences and dinners. The toolkit comprises of:

  • A set of pop-up stands with a generic Skills Pledge message and case studies
  • A Leaftlet that explains the benefits and processes of the Skills Pledge
  • A large exhibition stand that delegates and guests can attach arrows onto, which contain their details. These leads can then be followed up after the event.

If you are planning an employer event and would like to make use of the Skills Pledge toolkit please contact richard.butler@lsc.gov.uk
